Progress at the OHN NOC
From the September Issue of the OHN Newsletter

Exciting progress is being made at the OHN Network Operations Center (OHN NOC) this week! The first three leaf nodes were shipped to Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise, Blue Mountain Community College in Baker City, and Oregon Coast Community College in Newport. Leaf nodes are Cisco 1700 series routers.
Once the leaf nodes are installed and connected to the OHN NOC, (located at EasyStreet Online Services in Beavertron, OR) vital data and information regarding each participant’s broadband circuit will be collected and transmitted through these leaf nodes to the Network Monitoring System (NMS) located at the OHN NOC (EasyStreet Online Services in Beaverton). This information will be used to determine the health of the circuit and whether it meets established performance criteria as well as provide notification alerts when problems on the circuit arise.
The information from these three initial sites will be used to improve the installation processes and modify the NMS and other systems to enhance the overall experience of connecting to the OHN NOC. The remaining three sites in RFP 1 are slated to receive their leaf nodes and be connected to the OHN NOC by the end of October.
FCC Seeks Public Comment for Changes to National Broadband Plan
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it is making changes to the National Broadband Plan, which is designed to assist thousands of health providers at hospitals and clinics in the U.S. who lack adequate broadband access and capability. The announcement, made July 15, begins a 30-day open window for public comment. Comments can be sent to: Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th Street SW; Washington, DC 20554 or via email, fccinfo@fcc.gov.

Updates to the FCC’s National Broadband Plan include the development of a permanent $400 million fund to further broadband infrastructure and build out of health information capabilities in rural areas. This financial support is an additional funding opportunity, outside of the current Rural Health Care Pilot Program (RHCPP) of which Oregon Health Network (OHN) manages for the state, and the standard Rural Health Care Program (RHC).
