HOW OHN SERVES PAYORS
Health Insurers are, without a doubt, faced with a complex and ever changing landscape. Operating in an environment where there is increased demand for:
• Lower costs
• Transparency
• Efficiency
All of these demands are occurring while care costs continue to rise and enormous economic pressure towards decreasing membership.
Health Insurers are focused on meeting these demands by investing in efficient electronic communication with hospitals and providers, rolling out and enhancing preventative care programs to help keep members healthy, educating and engaging members in their own health care more than they ever have been before (along with many other initiatives). Moving forward one thing is clear; communication and information sharing is key.
LOOKING AHEAD
Challenges and pressures aside, imagine now the Oregon Health Network. A high speed, highly reliable, secure network dedicated to delivering healthcare information between providers, hospitals, labs, educators, insurers, pharmacies, and potentially even (insured) members.
Imagine:
A broadband network that can help provide your members with quality care, including preventative care no matter if they live in the urban or rural settings of Oregon through enhanced telemedicine capabilities.
Eligibility or claim statues inquires answered without the need of costly phone calls enabled through this broadband network that can connect your organization directly to hospitals, clinics, and providers and bring us closer to efficient system to system communication. A case or disease manager having appropriate and timely access to electronic medical records through a secure network to assist members in coordinating and complying with appropriate treatment prescribed by physicians. Or an ER doctor that can access important medical information such as allergies or medication history in a matter of seconds on a patient they have never seen before.
The Oregon Health Network (OHN) has the potential to help make these scenarios a reality.
BECOMING AN OHN MEMBER PARTICIPANT
As a member, you will have a seat at the table as we shape the future of OHN. We need to involve every Payor and healthcare-related business in order to maximize the potential of the network. Can we count you in?

FCC Seeks Public Comment for Changes to National Broadband Plan
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it is making changes to the National Broadband Plan, which is designed to assist thousands of health providers at hospitals and clinics in the U.S. who lack adequate broadband access and capability. The announcement, made July 15, begins a 30-day open window for public comment. Comments can be sent to: Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th Street SW; Washington, DC 20554 or via email, fccinfo@fcc.gov.

Updates to the FCC’s National Broadband Plan include the development of a permanent $400 million fund to further broadband infrastructure and build out of health information capabilities in rural areas. This financial support is an additional funding opportunity, outside of the current Rural Health Care Pilot Program (RHCPP) of which Oregon Health Network (OHN) manages for the state, and the standard Rural Health Care Program (RHC).
FCC Extends RHCPP Deadline by 1 Year or 6/30/2011
