OHN Forming Volunteer Stakeholder Think-tank to answer "What's Next" for Organization

State-wide Request for Applications DUE May 28 for 3 specialized work groups

As a new and growing organization - interacting with new participants, partners and stakeholders across the state - a common question is raised: What's next after a health care provider and educational institution joins the network? Now that the network is live, how can participants really "connect" with other providers on the network to fully leverage their new OHN connection? What applications are and will be running on the network for participants to benefit from?

OHN is actively engaged in the final stages of Phase 1 which includes the actual construction of the core broadband infrastructure and securing our anchor tenants throughout the state through the FCC RHCPP subsidy. However, Phase 2 is upon us and surrounds answering the core "What's Next" question, and making sure that the network is used to serve our mission:

"To ensure the highest quality health care for all Oregonians through an enhanced telehealth network, education, technological innovation, and state-wide collaboration."

Therefore, OHN is currently accepting applications for our new thought leadership group called the Stakeholder Council, a sub-group and primary responsibility of our core Planning Committee.  The Stakeholder Council's sub-charter is to provide strategic input to the Planning Committee, and ultimately the OHN Board of Directors, through the development of well-vetted, mini-business plans or general recommendations.

The Stakeholder Council will have three core work groups to prioritize and flush out:

  • Identification and recommended action for current/future industry challenges
  • Identification and prioritization of possible hosted services or solutions that would enhance the value of OHN for its participants
  • Identification and clarification of what unmet needs exist in the industry. Explore and clarify if they can be effectively met through a partnership agreement or any one of OHN's state-wide stakeholders/partners
  • Unanswered questions and needs requested of OHN by its participants

Each workgroup will be guided by the mission of OHN and the direction of the Planning Committee; and each will have a specific focus and purpose within the outlined review and recommendation process. To ensure the highest quality work and recommendations, each work group will (should) have industry representation from health care, industry, government, education and current OHN participants.

Workgroup 1: Medical/Education/Health Care
This first group will be comprised of our clinical and education thought leaders. They will be tasked to identify, state and prioritize the medical/clinical and educational issues, trends and opportunities to present to Workgroup 2.

Is this work group for you?

  • Are you a physician, clinician, administrator or educator on the pulse of state-wide/regional/community trends to help us identify and prioritize which challenges and opportunities are facing our health care and health care education partners?
  • Are you a health care, technology, HIT or telecommunications industry leader, provider or consultant that specializes in health care and health care education? Are you at the forefront of innovative new products, technologies and services? Can you help us align existing and future trends to OHN's vision and the unmet needs of our participants?
  • Are you a valued government (city, county, state or federal) leader or consultant that is tracking the federal and state trends surrounding health care, health information technology and work force development for health care?

Workgroup 2: Information Technology (IT)
This second group will leverage the work and recommendations from Workgroup 1, and answer the question "How will we positively impact these recommended needs/opportunities/priorities technologically?" This group's vetted work and recommendations will then be forwarded on to Workgroup 3.

Is this work group for you?

  • Are you CIO, Chief Medical Information Officer or administrator with key responsibilities in supporting clinical systems and processes? Does your job function directly support your organization, agency, or community's HIT efforts?
  • Are you a health care, technology, HIT or telecommunications industry leader, provider or consultant that specializes in health information technology in any capacity? Are you responsible for identifying, building and implementing new technologies the improve the quality, delivery and access of health care and education?
  • Are you a valued government (city, county, state or federal) leader or consultant that is tracking the federal and state trends surrounding health information technology and work force development for health care?

Workgroup 3: Business/Financial
This final group will take the work and recommendations of Workgroups 1 & 2 and work to clarify the sustainability of the final recommendations. It's possible that the recommendations might ask for other state-wide stakeholders to address, OHN directly, or a variation thereof. This specific industry knowledge and required professional experience will give a unique perspective and help this three-step workgroup work together to identify new projects and initiatives, products and service offerings, and provide overarching strategic direction to OHN's Board of Directors.

Is this work group for you?

  • Are you CFO, CEO or administrator who excels at understanding the business behind the solutions? Can you ask the hard questions surrounding sustainability, pricing, marketing and fulfillment required to make plans work?
  • Are you a health care, technology, HIT or telecommunications industry leader or consultant that has go-to-market expertise and understands the competitive landscape? Do you have an understanding of what sells and what drives the innovation, use and adoption of new applications and services?
  • Are you a state-wide thought leader that has first-hand knowledge about what's already being done by other organizations, communities and regions? Are you able to identify and flush out solutions that are already in place by other organizations to make sure identifying solutions aren't already being performed? Can you motivate our stake-holder synergies and help achieve full utilization of our resources currently in the state of Oregon?
  • Are you a valued and influential government (city, county, state or federal) leader or consultant who understands how, what and where OHN should align its solutions to support, respond to or enhance government programs/resources?

OHN is Oregon's state-wide telehealth network. To make it work for Oregon, we need Oregon's expertise and guidance. This committee will be the guiding strategic think tank for OHN, and therefore your thought leadership is of critical importance!

There will be required work session meetings and a one year commitment is desired. If you are interested in lending your expertise or experience, please download and fill out our application and submit no later than May 28 by 5:00 pm to volunteer@oregonhealthnet.org.

Thank you for your interest!

 REDEFINING SUPPORT

As a new organization, our success and momentum to date is due primarily  to the 24/7 efforts of our extended volunteer network. While many other FCC Rural Health Care Pilot Programs (RHCPP) have evolved out of existing organizations/institutions like State university systems, OHN started from scratch, through a completely working-volunteer network. OHN will continue to rely heavily upon its board, and six committees to do what it is that we need to do.

If you’re interested in participating and bringing your passion for healthcare and our professional experience to OHN, we encourage you to contact us to learn more about our committees and where you might find the best place to serve.

This is not a solo flight or something for a small niche group if we're going to make this vision a reality. Learn how you can lend your support here. We need as many willing hands as we can find

FCC Seeks Public Comment for Changes to National Broadband Plan

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it is making changes to the National Broadband Plan, which is designed to assist thousands of health providers at hospitals and clinics in the U.S. who lack adequate broadband access and capability. The announcement, made July 15, begins a 30-day open window for public comment. Comments can be sent to: Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th Street SW; Washington, DC 20554 or via email, fccinfo@fcc.gov.

Updates to the FCC’s National Broadband Plan include the development of a permanent $400 million fund to further broadband infrastructure and build out of health information capabilities in rural areas. This financial support is an additional funding opportunity, outside of the current Rural Health Care Pilot Program (RHCPP) of which Oregon Health Network (OHN) manages for the state, and the standard Rural Health Care Program (RHC).
