THE VALUE OF PARTICIPATION

Every hospital, clinic and community college is as unique as the communities they serve. Therefore, the value of the Oregon Health Network can vary greatly from participant to participant. While we encourage you to use this site to see how the OHN might directly serve your location and organization's goals and objectives, key value propositions of the RHCPP and OHN include but are not limited to:

  • Significant cost savings
    • Additional funding to expand an existing telehealth program
    • Additional funding needed to launch a telehealth program
  • Workforce development
    • Additional funding to start or expand a healthcare/workforce education program in your community to address the growing demand of healthcare providers
    • Encourage healthcare students to remain and serve in the communities in which they live
  • Economic development
    • Based upon having increased broadband capability in the community, building telehealth and workforce development programs for healthcare, OHN can help to improve the viability and sustainability of the surrounding community
  • Because it's the right thing to do

For future participants who qualify for the FCC's RHCPP subsidy, it's important to contact us immediately. All future RHCPP participants must have their vendor contracts approved by the FCC and USAC (Universal Service Fund; the FCC's 3rd party administrator) by June 30, 2011

If you're a non-profit hospital, clinic, health care agency or community college with healthcare programs, this program truly represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get your broadband install costs covered at 100%, and your monthly recurring telecommunications cost covered by 85% over the course of the five-year RHCPP program (May 2014). OHN is considering grouping a final RFP by the end of the year, 2009 in our effort to best understand what sites are interested in this program, and how best to distribute these funds.

FCC Seeks Public Comment for Changes to National Broadband Plan

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it is making changes to the National Broadband Plan, which is designed to assist thousands of health providers at hospitals and clinics in the U.S. who lack adequate broadband access and capability. The announcement, made July 15, begins a 30-day open window for public comment. Comments can be sent to: Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th Street SW; Washington, DC 20554 or via email, fccinfo@fcc.gov.

Updates to the FCC’s National Broadband Plan include the development of a permanent $400 million fund to further broadband infrastructure and build out of health information capabilities in rural areas. This financial support is an additional funding opportunity, outside of the current Rural Health Care Pilot Program (RHCPP) of which Oregon Health Network (OHN) manages for the state, and the standard Rural Health Care Program (RHC).
