The Power of the Internet Exchange

The days of relying on the service fluctuations of the public Internet are over!  Each OHN provider site benefits from the “OHN Service Level Agreement”. This ensures that your provider connections will stay on the highway and not get stuck in the traffic jams and random quality associated with a traditional public Internet connection. With the one managed network connection to the OHN community at NWAX, OHN participants’ experience many of the quality benefits of a traditional point-to-point connection but with the ability to connect to all OHN participants through a scalable solution that provides the flexibility and quality needed to run tomorrow’s health IT and/or telehealth applications. Additionally, this network configuration provides the value of an optional integrated public internet connection that will provide your organization with the possibility of a “one port” solution that automatically takes the proper network path regardless of whether your destination is another OHN participant or another provider on the public internet. As an added bonus, the public internet connectivity acts as a convenient work around should there be an interruption in the peering connections at NWAX.

To support and participate in the next generation of “patient-centered care,” Oregon providers and OHN participants don’t just need the most robust and reliable broadband infrastructure to support needs and applications. They need a managed network like OHN which allows Oregon providers to better coordinate care with the expanded medical community. OHN’s scalable, hub and spoke network model not only fills this need in Oregon, but is designed to “plug in” to the expanding national health care delivery system “highway” and community as it’s being rolled out – one region and state at a time.
